📍 Introduction

Zamfara State, located in Northern Nigeria, is a region rich in cultural heritage and economic activities, primarily agriculture and gold mining. Despite the challenges posed by insecurity, the state’s people remain hospitable and resilient.

In October 2023, the Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch in Nigeria conducted an on-the-spot assessment of projects executed by the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) in Zamfara. The assessment focused on tree plantation projects, irrigation systems, and community interventions aimed at combating land degradation and desertification.
