📍 Introduction Zamfara State, located in Northern Nigeria, is a region rich in cultural heritage and economic activities, primarily agriculture and gold mining. Despite the challenges posed by insecurity, the state’s people remain hospitable and resilient. In October 2023, the Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch in Nigeria conducted an on-the-spot assessment of projects executed by the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) in Zamfara. 📍 Introduction Auchi Polytechnic, one of Nigeria’s premier institutions, has a storied history of contributing to the nation’s educational and economic development. Founded in 1963 as a technical college, it was later upgraded to a polytechnic in 1973 and subsequently taken over by the Federal Government in 1994. This transition has fostered significant growth in infrastructure, academics, and reputation, positioning the institution as a leader in higher education. In December 2023, a coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) conducted an on-the-spot monitoring and evaluation of developmental projects at Auchi Polytechnic. The assessment aimed to promote transparency and accountability by evaluating the institution’s progress under the leadership of Rector Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar. Objectives of the Assessment The CSO team undertook the evaluation with the following goals:🔹 Progress Verification: Assessing the completion status and impact of projects.🔹 Project Quality Evaluation: Examining construction quality, functionality, and resource utilization.🔹 Identifying Challenges: Highlighting areas for improvement in execution and resource allocation.🔹 Ensuring Accountability: Verifying project implementation against plans and budgets.🔹 Enhancing Credibility: Demonstrating responsible management and boosting stakeholder confidence.🔹 Feedback Collection: Engaging with beneficiaries to gauge satisfaction and gather insights for future initiatives.
